Participating in eSports has become one of the most popular leisure activities worldwide. One of the most popular genres of eSports games is MOBA(Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). However, few studies have focused on the gaming motivations of MOBA players. This study aimed to discover the motivations of players of ROV, one of the world's leading MOBA games, and to relate them to demographic variables and gaming behaviors. An online questionnaire to ROV gamers in Thailand was used to assess their main gaming motivations, namely, achievement, socialization, and immersion. The final valid sample consisted of 150 Thai ROV players. The results showed that achievement was the most motivating factor for playing ROV, while immersion was the least motivating factor. Additionally, gender and frequency of play had a significant effect on gaming motivations, whereas age did not. |
