余光中一生在翻譯領域用力甚勤，在英詩漢譯方面的成就令人矚目，共譯出了301首英詩。他的英詩漢譯不僅數量不菲，整體品質也相當高，尤其是其著力經營的英詩形式翻譯。在英詩形式翻譯中，最突出的是其對英詩格律的翻譯，從繼承“以頓代步”，到形成“靈活的以字代音節”方法，在前人的基礎上他擴展了英詩格律翻譯的可能性，將英詩翻譯帶到了新的境界。在“白話譯詩”為主流的時代，他富於創造性地提出“白以為常，文以應變”的翻譯語言策略，實現了譯詩語言手段的拓展。對英詩漢譯乃至廣大的外詩漢譯而言，余光中的英詩漢譯思想和方法均有一定的借鑒價值和啟發意義。

For the translation of English poetry into Chinese, as well as the translation of foreign poetry into Chinese, Yu's concepts and methods of translating English poetry into Chinese have both important value and enlightening significance.
