This study aims to elucidate the cognitive processes involved in second language acquisition by analyzing the gaze positions and sentences of 20 native Japanese speakers (A) and 21 Chinese learners of Japanese (B). When presented with an illustration of“A person puts beaten eggs in a pan,”A used“nagashi-komu”as the main verb, while B used“tsukuru”as such. The p-values (t-tests) indicate that the upper central area and the lower area were the most frequent gaze positions for A and B, respectively. The lower gaze region + ta form was also observed for B, indicating that cognitive processes may influence gaze positions and the choice of grammatical expressions. |
