This paper aims to introduce the keynote speech ''From Aerospace to Science at School: Providing Creative Environments for Young STEM Talents' Research Projects'' by Dr. Tobias Schüttler at the 17th Asia-Pacific Gifted and Talented Conference to be held at National Taiwan Normal University in 2022. Dr. Tobias Schüttler works at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and serves as the head of the DLR School Lab. The primary purpose of the project is to provide gifted students at universities or high schools with out-of-school real science labs to experience physics, Aerospace science and technology in education. Moreover, another purpose is to explore various teaching approaches of science education, promote gifted education in mathematics and physics, and enhance international cooperation and exchanges. At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Schüttler led the audience through the video device and led us with a first-person live perspective into the heart of the aerospace center. This opening immediately attracted the attention of the audience. Then he shared the projects of the DLR School Lab program. The course emphasized (a) the learning experience through hands-on experiments, (b) practical experience and hands-on setting designed to mirror actual situations, and (c) utilization of tutoring system. Let the audience stimulate many new ideas on how to cultivate young STEM talents, vertically integrate resources, and solve real-world problems. |
