What is ball quality ? It's a common yet complex question that's difficult to know where to start. Researchers, deeply involved in the tennis field, have seen significant leaps in performance due to improvements in ball quality during players' careers. Therefore, in coaching, researchers prioritize enhancing players' fundamental ball quality. However, in the process of communicating with players, it's found that quality becomes a concept hard to articulate and understand mutually during practical training. To solve this issue, returning to the fundamental understanding of ball quality becomes crucial. This article, through the skepticism of depth perception by French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty in "Eye and Mind," analyzes existing studies on ball quality from rationalism and perspective indoctrination systems. It then develops the depth of ball quality technology through Merleau-Ponty's theory of corporeal existence. It's found that the current sports science theory of ball quality is based on a Cartesian coordinate calculation system, and practical coaching experience views ball quality technology as entering into indoctrination systems like perspective techniques. Finally, the ball quality perspective developed from corporeal existence theory sees ball quality as relative, interconnected, a process, constantly changing, and the essence of the tennis world. Reflection reveals that ball quality not only involves the relationships between people, things, and events but also serves as the essence of the tennis world. As coaches, it's essential to think more diversely and openly about ball quality constantly accompanying players' growth through practice and exploration, expanding the horizon of one's own ball quality technology, and giving players greater space for ball quality evolution. |
