In the study of compulsory group treatment based on dynamic interpersonal relationship approach, we used as an example, a group of heroin addicts under medical treatment. Because these patients were required to take the urine morphine test regularly during the course of treatment, the group would have viewed results of their urine tests as a reality confrontation. We formulated the urine morphine test into a urine test chart. This chart was used as both a psychological projection tool and confrontation tool, to explore how the group leader's confrontation response had to change to be based on the "group as a whole" instead of based on individual group members. Furthermore, considering that the internal object was projected from individual group members, how would the leader have responded appropriately, bringing the group in line with therapeutic goal, and assisting the growth of both the group and its individual members. |
