Objects: The purpose of this study was to understanding the possibility of improving interpsersonal adaptation of schizophrenia by yalom chornic inpatient group psychotheray in long-term care unit. Method: Forty patients with schizophrenia were randomly assigned to group psychotherapy or control group, who were stabilized with psychotic symptoms in long-term care unit. Each psychotherapy group with ten patients was led by well-trained leaders once a week for 12 sessions. Data collected by questionnaires during the course of the group psychotherapy are analyzed by paired-T test with SPSS. Results: Even there was no significant difference between therapy and control group. This study still provides meaningful information for understanding the process of group psychotherapy with these patients. The characteristics in group psychotherapy of the patients with schizophrenia in long-term care unit are different from other acute inpatient or outpatient of psychosis. They need more sessions to achieve the therapeutic goal, and are more sensitive for family issue. Conclusions: These findings suggest that more sessions of group and specific topic may provide more therapeutic effects for the patients with schizophrenia in long-term care unit. They shared the same desire as common people in connection and relationship. They show these interpersonal activities when group provide a safe space to contain their anxiety and experiences from symptoms. |
