The study of Sixteen States seldom received attention among historians. Misaki Yoshiaki's Fundamental Study of The Sixteen States was the first Japanese academic research which focused on the period of Sixteen States. This thus made the translation of the Prologue from this book meaningful. Accordingly, the main contribution of this paper was to investigate the history of Sixteen States in Japanese researches since 1930 until present. This paper was divided into three parts according to three stages sequentially -- early researches, the expansions and contemporary researches on Sixteen States. It also included detailed introduction on the research results, research topics and issues which deserved further investigations from the Japanese Academia in the fields of History in each stage. |
