Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) prioritizes practical skills and learning by doing, emphasizing real-world application for students. However, to prepare students for a rapidly changing future, fostering deeper literacy competencies within TVE programs is crucial. This research focuses on practical skills programs in vocational high schools. It explores the implementation of the new Curriculum Guidelines for 12-Year Basic Education in Taiwan from 2019 and how to integrate literacy-oriented teaching into practical courses. The study reveals the following results: (1) Teachers strive to integrate knowledge, skills, and attitudes in their classes; however, practical challenges exist, such as limited equipment and students' varying foundational abilities; (2) Contextualizing learning situations can effectively improve student motivation. but, teaching methods often remain ''top-down'' and teacher-centered; (3) While diverse teaching methods can enhance students' literacy competencies, real-world application may be hindered by unfamiliar fields, overloaded schedules, limited equipment, and socio-economic disparities among students. |
