Purposes: This study aims to investigate the effect of jogging on improving the health-related fitness and attention of elementary students with autism. Methods: As for health-related fitness, this study adopted a reversal design of the single-subject research method. In terms of attention, a standardized measurement tool was used to conduct pre and post-test design. These two designs were used to explore the impact of jogging on the above-mentioned skills. The research participants in this study were two elementary school students with autism. Participants received a 20-minute jogging intervention 3 times a week for 8 weeks. After the intervention, visual analysis, a C statistic, and descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Results: Jogging has positive effects on improving the four major items of health-related fitness (cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, and muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition) and attention ability of the participants. Conclusion: Jogging intervention improved the health-related fitness and attention of elementary school students with autism and this result was also confirmed via the perception of their significant others. |
