In recent years, the main cycling network, the Island Round Cycling Route Network, has been constructed completely, but bicycles and motor vehicles still share the relevant road rights in mixed lanes in some road sections. To identify and measure the friendliness of the cycling environment, this study refers to foreign-related indicators of bikeway friendliness, to explore the friendliness of the cycling environment in Taiwan. Therefore, this study conducts a literature review and case study of the friendliness of bikeways, including a discussion on the measurement indicators of bikeway friendliness and the cases of bicycle-friendly cities. After the above review and analysis, this study has developed a suitable assessment system for the friendliness of domestic recreational cycling routes. There are four major dimensions concluded, continuity, safety, convenience, and comfort. In addition, there are also 12 indicators to assess those 4 dimensions. In the future, the authority of bikeways could apply those indicators to collect users' opinions and then compute the score of each recreational cycling route. According to the above data, the recreational cycling route could be examined for its friendliness index and the authority of bikeways could plan to optimize or improve the facility to provide a better cycling environment to users. |
