From February 1904 to September 1905, Japan and Russia went to war in Northeast China due to their conflict of interests in Northeast China and Korea. Since the Russo-Japanese War, the interests of other powers in China such as Britain and the United States have also been involved. Suddenly, reports spread and public opinion was in an uproar.“The Chinese recorder and missionary journal”, the largest missionary English magazine in China at that time, also paid much attention to this. The recording and dissemination from the“other”perspective not only provides historical materials for the study of the history of the Russo-Japanese War, but also helps to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the missionary groups in the late Qing Dynasty. This article intends to use the text of“The Chinese recorder and missionary journal”to analyze the relevant reports before, during and after the war between Japan and Russia, and gain a glimpse of the origin of the Russo-Japanese War, the trends of Japan-Russia war preparations, the war process and post-war handling issues from the perspective of Western missionaries at that time. |
