Purpose: Through a literature review approach, this study aims to consolidate and elucidate the definitions, measurement methods, and highlighted potential impacts of lower limb muscle strength asymmetry on athletes. Methods: A systematic search was conducted using the keywords ''lower limb muscle strength asymmetry'' in databases including Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar, PEDro, Cochrane Library, and CNKI. Relevant literature concerning important information related to lower limb muscle strength asymmetry, its measurement methods, and its effects on athletic performance and injury mechanisms were compiled from both domestic and foreign sources, with the intention of informing readers about the severity of lower limb asymmetry. Results: There is a higher likelihood of lower limb asymmetry in males compared to females. Additionally, if lower limb muscle strength asymmetry exceeds 10-15%, the probability of non-contact sports injuries increases. Conclusions: Elevated levels of lower limb muscle strength asymmetry may increase the risk of sports injuries. Athletes should undergo regular assessments to detect lower limb asymmetry, allowing for evaluation and mitigation of potential risks. |
