This paper focuses on the documentary“Unfulfilled Dreams”directed by Chu Tien-wen, and examines how the stories of her deceased father / writer Chu Hsi-ning are represented in the documentary. From the perspective of biographical research, this paper investigates how“Writers of Chu”begins.
Based on the documentary“Unfulfilled Dreams”as the core, this paper discusses the concept of“Home”with the texts in and out of the documentary. Through tracking the course of the first generation writer Chu Hsi-ning's – what his family background is, how he leaves home and how he builds a new home, together with the dialectics of hometown, this paper constructs the meaning of clan, memory and arts of writing, and further describes the status and the significance of Chu Hsi-ning in history of literature in Taiwan. |
