Owing to its originality, Roger T. Ames’theory of Confucian Ethics, categorized as a type of role ethics, has been the subject of much discussion among scholars. The discourse of Roger T.Ames’“role ethics”is strongly influenced by pragmatism and process philosophy. This study aims to analyze the pragmatist style of his role ethics and explicate the possible challenges it may encounter. Furthermore, this study raises some questions regarding the reversal discourse of role ethics on the relationship between“benevolence”and“propriety”in Confucianism with evidence from pre-Qin literature Confucianism. Finally, this study proposes some questions regarding the research method used in Roger T.Ames’theory and explains the academic value and function of role ethics. |
