Background: In Taiwan, following the separation of dispensing from medical practice, patients are required to carry their prescriptions to pharmacies where pharmacists dispense and provide medications. Pharmacists are responsible for evaluating medication redundancy, drug interactions, and communication records with doctors to optimize pharmaceutical services and integrate healthcare resources. However, during the dispensing process, the prescription, currently in paper form, serves as the basis for medication dispensing, making it challenging to record detailed patient medication information due to the complexity and variety of information required on a single prescription. Objective: The goal is to use AI optical recognition and AI neural network machine learning technologies to identify the details of prescriptions and medication information. The aim is to establish an optical recognition AI system and a pharmaceutical care database, enabling pharmacists to record accurate patient medication information in real-time during dispensing services and provide more precise pharmaceutical care. Method: This study collaborates with the Pharmacist Association, which collects drug prescriptions for AI recognition learning, and for validating and operating the research and development outcomes. Results: The application of AI technology deepens in the pharmaceutical care field. By using AI recognition technology, pharmacists' medication judgment, collaboration, and home care services are enhanced. Additionally, a standardized national healthcare integration database is established, serving as a foundation for integrated healthcare resources in Taiwan with cross-service collaboration. |
