Den-An Temple, located in Loudong Township, is one of the most important temples in Luodong. Its predecessor is Wu-gu-wang temple in Qing Dynasty. Because of the statue of Xuanwu (god) in Diao-Xun Temple, it stayed in Loudong and became the main god worshipped in Den-An Temple. The birth of Xuanwu (god) on March third becomes the most symbolic local religious festival in Loudong every year. By investigating the background, it was found out that besides the special myth behind, the support of Local elites is indispensable, and it also makes Den-An Temple to be the local religious center. As to the reasons why these gentries agree with Den-An Temple, it’s nothing more than raise the symbolic capital for themselves, which means a lot in Japanese occupation. When Loudong changed into a new commercial city, these Local elites boost in social status through the support toward Den-An Temple. |
