Food safety has always been an issue that continues to pay attention in Taiwan. In order to strengthen food allergen labeling information in Taiwan, the“Food Allergen Labeling”system was implemented since 2015, and expanded from 6 items to 11 items on July 1, 2020, which crustaceans, mango, peanuts, milk and goat milk, eggs, nuts, sesame, gluten-containing grains, soybeans, fish, and sulfites, must be labeled with food allergen alerting information. In order to cooperate administrative management with the rights of consumers, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) conducted a survey on food allergen labeling from 2021 to 2022, and a total of 200 packaging food samples were collected by local health authorities. All samples were tested with the recommended methods that was published by TFDA, and inspected on food packaging labels. The result showed that a total of 26 samples were non-compliant, including 8 samples of food allergen labeling information were not labeled, 14 samples were incompletely labeled, and 4 samples should be labeled but not labeled. The total non-compliance rate of food allergen labeling investigation was 13%. Samples that did not meet the requirements had been sent to the local health authorities for follow-up investigation and administrative sanction to protect the rights and health of people. |
