The exquisite and diverse bakery products are popular and frequently consumed in Taiwan, and the sanitation and safety management of the bakery manufactures are increasingly important. Since 2018, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) launched an inspection plan for bakery manufacturers, several issues such as Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation, the compliance of the regulations on the registration, good hygiene practice (GHP), product labeling, the documents of origin for raw materials, semi-products and end products compliance were inspected and tested. From 2018 to 2022, 934 companies/businesses were inspected by TFDA and the local health bureaus. The major non-compliances based on GHP were found as improper implement and management of food additives, unable to provide health examination report for food practitioners, and improper placing of food containers on the ground. Violations were required to correct non-compliant items within a time limit and reported to health authorities. The inspection report also pointed out that 32 companies stored expired foods/materials (3.4%). This inspection project also surveyed 1,542 bakery food sample in the market. The test reports showed that 6 foods were unqualified (0.4%). The unqualified foods and the manufacturers or sellers were penalized according to the law, and completely corrected. |
