Burma's Pursuit of Independence

首先，我們將簡單回溯緬甸的早期歷史發展，接著描繪英國如何著手併吞緬甸的過程，再來說明現代緬甸民族主義從19世紀末、到20世紀初的萌芽，進而考察在一次世界大戰爆發後如何邁向自治之路，其次檢視以翁山為首的獨立運動領導者如何與日本佔領軍周旋，最後以戰後的英緬談判收尾。

We shall start with a brief of account of the early development of Burmese history and then describe how the United Kingdom undertook to annex Burma. We will then analyze how Burmese nationalism had flourished from the end of the 19thcentury toward the beginning the 20thcentury, and how Burma had obtained its autonomy after World War I. Further, we will examine how the Burmese independence movement under the leadership of Aung San managed to thrive while collaborating with the Japanese Army. Finally, we will end with accounts of the Anglo-Burmese negotiations of Burma’s independence after World War II.
