The period during which the Yuan dynasty ruled China has been treated as a time of darkness when the country’s traditional culture and society underwent a period of destructive change. By deploying a multifaceted analysis of a series of policies intended to protect Confucianism as well as publishing programs undertaken by the three successive Yuan dynasty emperors Wuzong, Renzong, and Yingzong, who ruled from 1308 to 1322, Publishing Culture during the Mongol Period overturns the conventional wisdom concerning the dynasty’s rule of China with a compelling argument that the Yuan had high regard for Chinese culture and treated its institutions with respect. Based on my belief that the book can make a positive contribution to historical research into the Mongol period in Taiwan, I will endeavor in this paper to introduce the content of each of its chapters in detail. |
