Already before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, rising refugee numbers had caused political and economic impacts, and the integration of the refugees into the local society and culture was an issue of great concern in many countries. Given that education is considered an important part of integration policies this study focuses on the integration strategies in refugee education and takes Germany as the target as the country plays an important role in the European refugee crisis and represents one of the top five refugee receiving countries in the world. In view of the increasing numbers of refugee students attending universities in Germany over the years and its implications for the job market, this study assesses German government policies through literature analysis and elaborates on the implications to the higher education sector. From the study of Germany´s approach, there are lessons to learn for Taiwan in formulating related strategies in the future. |
