As inclusive education has become a global trend with the advocacy for educational equity, it is important for teacher educators to support prospective teachers learning to support students’ learning in the context of inclusion. In Taiwan, most of the ECSE teachers serve as the itinerant ESCE teachers to provide special education support services in preschool settings, in order to facilitate the quality of preschool inclusion. This paper aims to offer an analysis of current status of pre-service teacher education curriculum and courses for itinerant ECSE teachers in Taiwan, which is based on the essence of itinerant ECSE services and preschool inclusion practices. Based on the results of foregoing analysis on pre-service teacher education curriculum, this paper gives critical comments on fostering prospective ECSE teachers’ competencies to provide itinerant ECSE services, including the utilization of related professional standards as well as the selection, connection, designs and implementation of pre-service teacher education courses, in order to bridge the theory-practice gap. |
