Based on the 12-year Basic Education system, this study strives to establish a connection between talent nurturing in high schools and talent evaluation in colleges via the perspective of core competencies. The education system encourages a competency-driven curriculum, endorsing self-regulated learning and interdisciplinary methods. Through the Ministry of Education’s comprehensive student learning portfolios database, students can better understand their learning journey and aptitudes. This database is also a valuable tool for universities to gain a deep understanding of individual students’abilities, which play a pivotal role in the admissions process. The study utilized a questionnaire, distributed across 67 universities, to identify core competencies that align with the talent selection criteria of various departments. The survey, conducted from October 12, 2022, to October 31, 2022, amassed 3,368 valid responses from faculty members across both public and private universities. The results underlined that competencies within the“Spontaneity”category,“Logical Thinking and Problem Solving”(78.29%), and within the“Social Participation”category,“Interpersonal Relationships and Teamwork”(60.38%), were universally prioritized. These competencies were found to be relevant in most academic domains, highlighting their interdisciplinary importance. Conversely, the unique features of different departmental clusters led to variations in the emphasis on other competencies, reflecting their professional domains, knowledge content, and disciplinary areas. This study substantiates that core competencies form a crucial link between talent development in high schools and talent evaluation in university admissions. The focus on competencies such as“Logical Thinking and Problem Solving”and“Interpersonal Relationships and Teamwork”is found to be integral to both high school education and university admission processes. However, the distinct attributes of various academic clusters result in differentiated emphasis on other competencies. This validation of core competencies’role as a bridge contributes to students’adaptive growth and promotes a competency-based learning continuum across educational stages. |
