The poems in the Song Dynasty were distinctive from those in the Tang Dynasty so that it caused a contentious issue about which dynasty’s poems were more prestigious in the literature arena. The two poetic paradigms in the Song Dynasty, Su Shi and Huang Ting-jian, were paralleled with Lee Bai and Du Fu in the Tang Dynasty. In the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the Song-favor faction enthroned the Song poets such as Su Shi, Lu You, Huang Ting-jian who were highly recommended. The Tang-favor faction; however, venerated Lee Bai and Du Fu. Especially, the poems of Du Fu were adopted for study in a great amount. Although the Tang-favor faction commented negatively on the poems of Su Shi and Huang Ting-jian, their poems had something worth probing. Hence, this study combines the Tang-favor faction’s comments toward Su Shi and Huang Ting-jian with relative anthologies, prefaces, postscripts, and notes to analyze the acceptability of the Tang-favor faction in the beginning of the Qing Dynasty at the poems of Su Shi and Huang Ting-jian. |
