Community colleges play as critical educational institution for continuing education and lifelong learning. In Taiwan, the community college is named as 'Community University' while first established against on traditional banking education. Community university entails another vital role to develop and promote local knowledge, especially the Ministry of Education in 2018 announced on the 'Community College Development Act'. Yet, this act presents a limitation and challenge for community university to develop thinking and practice in response to the macro social changes which influence on the contribution of adult learning toward society. Community university connects the local humanities and social environment as the context and content for organizing courses and activities for learners. But, if it emphasizes on local thinking and action this may cause the restrictions of community university practice and connection toward the broad and macro societal developments. This article aims to explain the development of local knowledge in community colleges. Community universities have to correspond to the macro context of globalization, especially understanding the dialectical relationship between global and local trends. Community universities accept the glocalization as a practical strategy to develop the curricula and pedagogies. The conclusions and suggestions are provided in the final of the article. |
