Since academic year of 2019, Taiwan began to implement the 12-year Basic Education Curriculum Guidelines, also known as the 108 Curriculum Guidelines. It is the largest reform in the history of Taiwan education in terms of curriculum format and educational concept. The 108 Curriculum Guidelines lead the education reform of senior high schools, junior high schools, and elementary schools. However, as higher education is the continuation of basic education, any deviation from the 108 Curriculum Guidelines could undermine the national education transformation. Since 2020, the Center for General Education of Chang Gung University has followed the 108 Curriculum Guidelines through the reform of core curriculum, and developed the thematic curriculum as the main axis. This article describes four themes: (1) the relationship between the essence of the 108 Curriculum Guidelines literacy and the thematic teaching, (2) the reform methods of the core curriculum of Chang Gung University, (3) the challenges and practices of thematic teaching, (4) the conclusions. |
