English has been one of the key subjects in school curriculum as well as in the high-stake entrance exam in Taiwan. Following the introduction of the Curriculum Guideline for Grade 1-12 National Basic Education, the current bilingual education has been initiated since 2018 and could arguably been one of the most influential policies for primary and secondary education. This article concern the knowledge foundation needed for bilingual teachers. In particular, what might be included and highlighted in the curriculum requirement for been qualified as a certified bilingual teacher. In this paper, it is analyzed first that the nature of language and subject. Followed by an review for different language models for bilingual instruction. Based on these analyses, current teacher education and its curriculum were further investigated and criticized. |
