The main purpose of this article is to explore the role of the government-funded system for teacher education in Taiwan, as well as the current problems and dilemmas in implementation. After investigation, first, the government-funded system for teacher education in Taiwan is regarded as the symbol of national certification and has strong connection with the talent promoting. Second, the current government-funded system for teacher education has been turned to be a policy instrument to meet the school's demand for teacher in the remote area, make up for the gap in education, and achieve the educational justice and fairness. Furthermore, there are some problems in the government-funded system for teacher education, such as the selection criteria lay particular emphasis on test and academic performance, the system failure to cooperate with national development policies, the clerical work of supplying teachers for the school in the remote area is inefficient, lacking the sufficient complementary measures in educational practice for the student with government subsidies, teacher turnover rate is still high and teachers' career development is limited. From the situation presented above, this article tries to give relevant recommendations. |
