The communist revolution history in Shaanxi before Mao Tse-tung’s arrival with the Central Red Army in October 1935 has long evaded scholarly attention. Researchers who made rare mention of this period only touch upon Liu Zhidan, Xie Zichang, and the Shaan-Gan area where they were based. In fact, for the history of the communist revolution in Shaanxi Province, there are still many interesting aspects deserving further exploration, especially the Weibei area where the CCP created its first rural base in Shaanxi. This article looks into the material on the early organizations of the CCP. By examining the history of CCP’s party organizations and the cadres active in this period, this article delineates the key features characterizing the Chinese Communist revolution in Weibei area and, by extension, Shaanxi province, in the early 1930s. |
