The Joint Commission International Accreditation(JCIA)recommends that any hospital should have an emergency preparedness program to respond to the presentation of global communicable diseases. Facing the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital applied the Standard PCI.12.2 to unite a multidiscipline team and develop a multi-faced strategy to combat COVID-19. The strategy included communication with organizations participating in worldwide surveillance activities, development and implementation of segregation and isolation strategies, training, including demonstration, on the use of personal protective equipment appropriate to infectious disease, development and implementation of communication strategies, identification and assignment of staff roles and responsibilities, response to emerging or reemerging infections within the community. Since the beginning of outbreak in late April 2020 and May 2021 in Taiwan, we had many hospitalized patients in our hospital. COVID-19 was well-controlled in the hospital with no intrahospital transmission noted. |
