The paper is to clarify some doubts about who was the first principal of the Taichung Normal School and how many years did the school have been existing since the Japanese colonial period. After examining the historical documents about the school, the author discovers that the first principal of the Taichung Normal School was Inagaki Heitarou, not Knosita Knimasa. In addition, in terms of the length of the school’s history, the school was founded in 1923, not in 1899. Therefore, the author argues that the length of the school’s history was calculated wrongly before and needs to be re-examined in great depth. For this purpose, the author proposes that the school’s existence, operation and continuity can be considered to be three basic criteria for interpreting the length of the school’s history. |
