"Emergency department is an important part of the health care safety net. In this study, a monitoring system based on the Emergency Department Work Index (EDWIN) was developed to assess emergency department congestion. In the proposed system, a combination of a highdimensional database system and web-based dynamic charts presents a real-time and intuitive picture of the emergency department congestion. The hospital decision makers at all levels and on-site health care workers are with the ability to take appropriate actions based on the information provided by the monitoring system. This study analyzes the causes of emergency congestion through the emergency quality monitoring management system, including analysis of the impact of the number of emergency patients in different departments, analysis of the number of emergency patients and emergency congestion during consecutive holidays, and analysis of the impact of emergency physician manpower scheduling on emergency congestion. Through the emergency congestion monitoring system developed by the study, more accurate real-time information could be provided on emergency workload and assist medical care teams in making appropriate decisions to improve the quality of emergency medical care." |
