"The aim of this study is to analyze the mathematics GEI “Textbook of the Year” in Germany and the mathematics textbooks based on curriculum guidelines of 12-Year basic education. The unit of analysis is “group learning activity” in textbooks. The quantitative part of this study is based on the number and proportion of group learning activities, which meet up communication skills in textbooks, and the qualitative part is focused on the comparative analysis of the group learning activities, which meet up all 5 communication skills in the same unit between German and Taiwan mathematics textbooks. The results of this study found: (1) The proportion of group learning activities, which meet up with each communication skill in German textbooks is higher than the proportion in Taiwan textbooks. (2) The three communication skills 'Describe your own thoughts and thoughts', 'use mathematical terms and symbols correctly', 'understand the views and opinions of others', are more higher than 'integrate your own and others' thoughts' in Taiwan textbooks (3) All 5 communication skills in German textbooks is higher than the proportion in Taiwan textbooks. This study hopes that the results and recommendations can help mathematics textbook design and edition, as well as mathematics teaching in the future, thus, the researcher makes some suggestions for textbook writers, educators in schools, and future researchers." |
