"Intercultural competence, which promotes the active interaction among different groups with respect and understanding, helps to reduce the cultural conflicts among countries and different ethnic groups. It reminds us the interdependence between people and has become the common focus of global education development and teacher education. Taiwan has actively promoted international education at the primary and secondary levels in decades. In the teacher education program, students are subsidized to study abroad to enhance their international experience and strengthen their intercultural competence. In this study, an in-depth interview was conducted on a student from a teacher education program. The story revealed how his study aboard experience in Vietnam might be helpful for his intercultural competence development. This first attempt in exploring how intercultural competence developed due to encounters of different cultural experiences, we wish to bring more attention to intercultural competence education. Recommendations are made for future international education for the teacher education program." |
