"The 12-year basic education has been implemented since 2014, it was the most important educational policy in Taiwan in this century, and has had extremely far-reaching consequences on the development of elementary and secondary education in Taiwan. This paper objectively analyzed the important issues in the 12-year basic education policy from the perspective of an educational policy researcher and educational administration participant, discussing the following issues: the concept of basic education, exemption admission and special enrollment, financing and conditional tuition exemption, research, development and review of new curriculum, actualization and homogenization of high school, and finally provides six suggestions for the 12-year basic education policy, including: 1. Integrate the current laws and enact the “12-year Basic Education Law”; 2. In the spirit of basic education, enact a tuition-free policy; 3. Review the appropriateness of current enrollment methods and reduce student stress; 4. Development of the 12-year curriculum should focus on professional insights; 5. Constantly review the effectiveness of the implementation of the new 12-year basic education curriculum and make rolling corrections; 6. Evaluate the effectiveness of the school actualization and homogenization programs, and reconstruct integrative school high-quality programs." |
