"Murder-Suicide, combining the two lethal forms of personal violence, means that the perpetrator commits suicide after killing the victim. It is responsible for 1000 to 1500 deaths annually in the United States. Approximately 100,000 people die from similar incidents worldwide every year. The victim is usually an intimate partner or family member. Such traumatic incidents cause great suffering and distress to relatives, friends and society. However, due to a rare event and the death of both parties, a lot of information is difficult to obtain, and fragmented media reports do not help clarify the truth. Therefore, this article intends to conduct an extensive literature review for clarifying the definitions, classifications, characteristics, causes and sociopsychological issues of murder-suicide. Finally, it recommends the future research directions and possible effective strategies to prevent such personal and domestic tragedies." |
