"Social casework method is one of the most popular methods for social workers. In order to ensure learners acquire the required professional knowledge, values, and skills in contemporary social casework processes, the social casework curriculum should incorporate social worker’s perspective in fostering the core competencies of social casework method. A group of 25 seasoned social work practitioners, representing 5 major fields of social work, composed of the participants of this study. Each of which has at least 10 years of field work experiences or holds vocational social work licensure, and has supervised student internship. The Modified Delphi Method was used to construct collectively a core competency scale for social casework. Four rounds of feedback collection and consensus building proceedings were deployed to arrive at the 27-question, 5-point rating scale that comprises of seven dimensions of interview attitude and skills, cultural competence, assessment, intervention, evaluation, record writing, and professional inspection. The rating scale can be used as a benchmark for teaching. It also helps learners self-evaluate their progress in learning social casework." |
