This study focuses on the world heritage site Convento de Sor Juana de Maldonado y Paz, and one of two sub-projects of the cooperative project for conserving Antigua Guatemala. As a direct participation in world heritage affairs, this construction documentation project has provided Taiwan with an important opportunity for accumulating experience in world heritage conservation. The reason for selecting the project“Convento de Sor Juana de Maldonado y Paz”is because of its large scale and with complete construction works. Among the construction works, this paper focuses on the wall restoration. Firstly, it reviews the location and background of Convento de Sor Juana; secondly, it introduces the architectural style and layout of the Convento de Sor Juana; thirdly, it describes the restoration principles and mechanisms of the project; fourthly, it examines the wall restoration work of this project; and lastly, it discusses the concept of authenticity and principles of consolidation, restoration and maintenance, to which we can make a reference in our conservation works in Taiwan. |
