The main purpose of this research is to explore the process and results of the Hakka family’s heritage language empowerment program. The participants of this study come from 12 Hakka families. The data collection methods mainly included: observation, interview, and collection of related documents. The data mainly were analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study show that the positive impacts of the program on families include that parents have a better understanding of Hakka language-related policies and information. Parents have increased awareness of Hakka language preservation. Parents promote family language policy in a variety of ways. However, parents have encountered many difficulties in promoting family language policy, including Mandarin used in school, inter-ethnic marriage, Mandarin used among siblings. Suggestions are provided in the final paragraph. |
