This paper aims to uncover the fundamental affinity between Daoist and later Merleau-Ponty's view on the flesh - especially following the initiative observation raised by Chiang Nian-feng. First, it focuses on the similarities between Laozi and Merleau-Ponty. Second, it shows the complementary relation between Zhaungzi's and Merleau-Ponty's approach. As a whole, this comparison will not only deepen the dialogue between Eastern and Western phenomenology, but also point to a new direction in developing the phenomenology of body. |
