Community beautification has been a big issue in community building in recent years. How to beautify and create a unique community is something that local governments and schools have been planning. Local governments in most communities prioritize infrastructure projects such as elderly service offices, community service centers, community greening or small parks and other similar infrastructure with high visibility . Moreover, schools can cooperate to offer more with courses or community beautification assistance under the premise of educational construction. This study explores and compares community construction projects in two different areas. The two community construction projects are based on mural creation and wall beautification. These projects both used course content to guide students to beautify a wall and then think about the problems of community building. Both walls are analyzed and discussed with research methods of actual participation. The first project was set at a school in the German city of Bad Münstereifel. The landscaping of several nearby walls and transformer boxes there was based on the practical experience created by the German community. The second projects involves the creation of murals in Taiwan. Taiwan's community building in this projects was based on collaboration with Cunningham Sunwood Art & Design. Mural paintings in Taipei community lanes were co-created by students and several artists. Live paintings with murals were used to beautify the walkway environment. The authors designed the curriculum in hopes of finding a cross-domain communication approach that combines mural courses with community building. |
