As nurses are promoted to higher management positions, their tasks become more complex and their role is of higher-value. A confi dent management style cultivates effi cient teamwork. This study investigated junior nursing managers' self-evaluations of their confidence and educational needs of management skills to provide in-service education practices. A research sample comprising 42 frontline nursing managers was selected from a regional teaching hospital in Southern Taiwan. The participants reported a moderate level of self-evaluating confi dence in their management skills and educational needs. The participants' self-evaluated confi dence in a leadership role differed according to age, and their confi dence in disseminator and spokesperson roles differed among work titles. The educational needs of leaders, liaisons, monitors, spokespersons, entrepreneurs, disturbance handlers, resource allocators, and negotiators differed according to age. The results of this study provide a reference for cultivating the skills of junior nursing managers and improving self-evaluations of nursing managers to enhance the management abilities of junior nursing managers and develop a cooperative work environment. |
