The purpose of this study was to utilize the alternative communication system with evidence-based strategies to promote communication and expression abilities for a child with multiple disabilities. This study used single-subject multiple baseline across behaviors design. The participant was a five-year two months old child with multiple disabilities. The intervention was utilized alternative communication system and evidence-based strategies, and the targeted behaviors were the communication abilities and inappropriate behaviors. Data collection has been used self-made communication behavior record form throughout implementing this study, and the visual analysis has been used to analyze the outcomes of intervention. The results revealed that alternative communication system might improve communication behaviors, but the effects were not stable. In addition, we found that this intervention can reduce inappropriate behaviors caused by communication problems. |
