This project aimed to explore the Vietnam immigrants postpartum experience learning neonatal care, the relevant factors, and enhance maternal neonatal care knowledge and skills. The team collected the data from January to June 2006. The results of the observation were as follows: The correct answer rates to the questions for local women were 93.62%, the rates of immigrants postpartum at 48.72%. According to the examination and factor analysis, the reason for the incorrect answer rates of the immigrants postpartum was: they were not able to understand the Chinese version of neonatal care manuals, they did not follow the Chinese sound track and video content, or they lacked practical skills and seeking help in Chinese. This project adopted the followings measures: producing care manuals and audio-video content of the Vietnamese version, demonstrating the whole care process by means of an infant model, providing full-time nurses or interpretation service. Consequently the opportunity to respond correctly to postpartum immigrant women increased from 48.72 to 85.42%. |
