Although the definitions and management categories of national parks and protected areas in Taiwan are not quite consistent with IUCN's. Taiwan government has been trying hard to set aside a variety of protected areas to keep pace with the global nature conservation trend. Some protected areas are restricted to get in, while some are inhabited. This article explores the implication, limitation and amendment of the protected areas archives from the point of view on the regulations and management practices of the protected areas. There are some disadvantages in the use of the archives, such as they are scattering among different government agencies, covering several geographic areas, having different spatial and temporal sampling intervals and so forth. All these restraints could be solved after the establishments of the national geographic information system, the digital map system, and the increased electronic records. |
