Long-term preservation of electronic records is one of the most important issues on which the National Archives Administration has been spending lots of efforts. After conducting a series of projects and experiments, the NAA proposes an architecture for long-term preservation of electronic records, which is based on the concept of electronic records lifecycle and able to meet the specific requirement of Taiwan government. According to the architecture, the preservation decision of different electronic records would be made based on their value and technique firstly, and the retention periods of them would be examined too. Coordinating with retention periods of electronic records, different actions, such as system preservation, migration, and emulation, would be taken to provide various solutions with distinguishing costs to meet their preservation need. Accompanied with other measures, like the setup of a supervisory consultant team, giving the sequent trainings, the revision of regulations, and collaborating with international community, the NAA aims to complete the construction of the architecture by 2011 under the support of the National Archives Digital Services Project in budget and human recourses. |
