The purpose of this study was to investigate the family needs among families of cancer patients and related factors. The study was a descriptive correlation research. A purposive sampling of the families of cancer patients was drawn from a medical center in cential Taiwan. There were 126 participants. The research instrument was a designed questionnaire of needs for families of cancer patients. The results of this study were inducted into three parts: 1. Information need is the first need category among families of cancer patients; 2. The first need item is "while the patient's condition is on the downhill or critical, he wants to know as soon as possible"; 3. Family needs and related factors among families of cancer patients, mainly including sex of family members, age educational degree, religious belief, perceived health condition and experience of caring for cancer patients. On the other hand, the cancer patients' sex, marriage, and cancer phases were included. When the related factors were placed along with different families' or patients' characteristics, their family need categories appeared different. This study's results could be the reference for clinical nursing, nursing education, as well as nursing practices. |
