The purpose of this study was to explore nurses' understanding of cancer patients' experiences in suffering process. An interview method was used to collect data, using content analysz of data. Six senior oncology nurses in a medical center were invited to participate in this study. The important findings were as follows: for patients in early stage, cancer related information was searching, patients' mood was fluctuating between hopes and fears, Chinese medicine and alterative medicine were used in addition to regular medical treatments. For patients' coping strategies, family support or encouragement might help patients walk away from the dark of suffering. For nurses' caring consideration, psychosocial consultation and supporting groups in the future were highly recommended. |
