The characteristics of patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) are unstable mood, frequent self-destructive behavior, and splitting in the staff team. Therefore, the nurses who care for the BPD patients suffered from the occupational stress and the experiences as: struggling to make sense of patient's experience and being traumatized. This paper reviews the literature about the characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of BPD, nursing diagnosis, rationale, and nursing action which need the support of cohesive, supportive teams with comprehensive models of care in place, and adequate education and ongoing supervision. |
